Atticus Arts and Scarf present Epic drama’s lockdown version of ‘Always Look on the Bright Side of Life’.

We had such fun performing and recording this. We hope it shines a little ray of sunshine on those who have been shielding and socially isolating for the past 3 months.

As an actor or director, the process of building a character involves finding their motivation. What is the subtext, their reason for being? A character’s back story is where you fill in the gaps. You read between the writer’s lines for clues to the characters past life. Where they were born, educated, family relationships, what experiences they had. Anything and everything that they went through to bring them to this point in their life.

Very early on in my acting career I played a character named Doll. During the course of the play she and her boyfriend terrorise and humiliate a couple in their own home. Doll took great pleasure in exposing the hypocrisy of the couple’s relationship and she uses the Nietzsche quote, above, to end the play, satisfied that the trauma she has inflicted on them will make them stronger people (great fun to play!). Whether this is true or not what is certain is that their experience at the hands of Doll will become part of their story.

Atticus Arts, in association with Theatreworks, present the premiere of this 5 minute mystery. Recorded during lockdown using Zoom (and a rookie editor!)
